Investigator Franklin Mackenzie Keyes finds himself at the center of a savage Culthos misadventure fit for the pages of an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. Keyes joins a group of “Seventeen Learned Men” -- unwitting, unsuspecting volunteers -- to embark upon a dubious prehistoric voyage “70 Million Years in the Past.” The voyage is plainly a hoax. A laughable publicity stunt. But promoter and financier of the voyage, Sir Lionel Lytton, claims to have mastered time travel itself, and to have established a small, multinational colony at Fort Solomon in the Cretaceous world. Accompanied by the Seventeen Learned Men, Sir Lionel’s voyage will leave from Mackinac Island, Michigan, at which time Keyes and his Assembly field team discover that Lytton’s claims are not as laughable as they seem. . .
